I went to site and saw a massive tree being cut down. A guy tied to the tree with a chainsaw tied to his waist...what a site. Very scary. It started raining and he came down like Tarzan. Worked on schedules, working drawings and did some admin. We have a two-WOMeN office so I do a bit of everything.
The work load will be picking up in the next two weeks with clients wanting there plans approved now! And they just approved the sketch designs.
Not all of them understand that it takes time. And putting the Plans through council takes some more time... Everything takes time! Things don"t happen over night. Well we sent plans to the Kraaifontein PBDM office and they approved a boundary wall in three days!
A boundary wall at the south pen office takes like 2 MONTHS!
So the tree came down...but in order to get the roots out... that will have to be dug out.and well they'll have to go through the clients beautiful garden with a bulldozer! Keep you posted on what happens there.
Apologies for the posts being so random in there content. I write whatever comes to mind and edit them later :)

...
Hi I'm calling to check the progress of our plans. card no. blah blah.
Ma'm your plans were approved on the 24th January. Laughs. They usually text you, saying your plans were approved or not.
Balustrade details, sketch designs for a small addition, some admin. A quiet but busy week for me.
My boss had meetings rescheduled like crazy! Not that wonderful in that regard.
Read another book (not on our list however): From our Bauhaus to our House, good non-fiction if you know your history :) (I need to read a few history books!)
Until later.

Paper Fashion show...
![]() |
Pleated balloon_*Sara inside :) |
So this is me, wearing my Pleated balloon just before leaving to the paper party.
Last year one of our lecturers suggested we read "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand. So I read it, just finished it over the weekend and well...I liked the Howard character, but toward the end the book kind of lost my attention a little. I read it to the end, simply to finish it. Its starts off being about architecture and how architects feel about their designs...and then it becomes all about Toohey-obviously not my favourite character..
Too much plotting to come out on top, for my little brain.
But I do however wish to see the movie :)
And work has been good so far this week.

Paper Fashion show tonight!
This past week has been great. Site works have begun on site for the steel and glass project. I am really excited for this one. Started 1:10 & 1:5 details for Steel-Glass project.
Issued some drawings on site. Picked up approved plans at the local PBDM (Planning and Building Development Management ) office.
So tonight we have to model our paper garments. Not looking forward to the modelling part.
All the best to the models!

2012!
Dear diary... :)
no! I'm not doing that here. This blog is all about my second year of study & interning at a small firm somewhere in Cape Town.
Word of mouth! That's how we get our clients. We are currently busy with a house in Constantia. Steel, glass and some existing brickwork. Site handover on Monday, yay! Can not wait for construction to begin...my first time on a STEEL & GLASS project!
And also this past week - Block 1. met a few nice people. We're making paper garments. My idea: a pleated balloon. Looks like a lantern...oh yes Happy Chinese new year!
I hope the end product is a success. And also the class has to attend a party coming Friday wearing our "garments"! A mixer party for all architecture and interior design students. Should be fun and funny.
We also went to GreenPoint Park...really cool park with small/medium sized gumpole structures. A bit of South African history with three small huts showing how they're built. A gumpole park for kids. Water features...watermill, ponds. Drinking fountains. Beautiful lawn for picnics. Table and chairs areas, if you prefer that.
Today we're on campus for our last day of Block 1. We'll start our first project, I think a gumpole structure...
