Pay day!

This week in the JCAD office...- made changes to aluminium and door schedules, made some phone calls (HWC and SPM), set up a Presentation drawing for a new Residence, dropped off revised drawings on site (only way to get anywhere was to climb up mounds of soil, dirt and rubble, so naturally I passed that one off and just dropped off the plan), palisade-conc footing detail, changed glazing specs (from four different types to everything being the same...Solar Low E 8.7mm thick Hahaha), sketch design for a tiny renovation (a bathroom!), took plans to SPM (South Peninsula Municipality-PBDM) and saw Mishaal there!!! waiting for her turn to see a zoning consultant. Sometimes they just take forever to see you, and then finally picked up our APPROVED demolition permit for a dilapidated cottage in Worcester...now I have to start the council submissions. Wonder who will be running these plans through council...kilometers away!

Jumua Mubarak and enjoy your weekend guys. Its PAY DAY!!!!

Adios

this week in the office...

we have been quite busy lately. We're thankful for the work we have but sometimes it gets way to hectic. Had our fortnightly site visit to the "glass-steel" house. Foundations are being poured into 2m excavations. The engineer says he does not know how the building was standing on that ground because of the underlying soil conditions. A digger was carving out the new CWC and my All stars paid! Had sand between my toes when I got home!
I worked on a restaurant layout, working drawings (changes to schedules and plans), timber and aluminium head details showing the weephole above the plaster band, and worked on a small office council submission set of plans.

Went in to work on 21st March, just for a few hours (Exercising my human right to learn! :) )

That's all from me.

Measured up alone! part 2

For some reason I forgot to describe the state the place was in. It hasn't been occupied for a while so it smelt kind of stale...There was leak somewhere that left puddles to the entrance of the kitchen. I put my clipboard down on some pieces of cardboard to measure something, next thing I know I'm witnessing disturbed baby cockroaches running all around, probably disturbed there sleep. Small flies in the sink as someone had left a lunch box with food in it(not sure what it was). Burnt candles in beer and wine and other bottles. Puddles of water behind the bar. The Distribution boards looked alive or like someone had been ripping out it's intestines *Laughs, sorry too much*. Gents WC and urinal smelt of moth balls (two hands full in the urinal).
But altogether another good week, never a bad week.
And for Tech I need to sort out which drawings go into my portfolio(for next weeks hand in)...scan my log sheets and start reading the books on our Prescribed reading LisT and we also have Jackson's Assignment to finish(Yeah! I've made a start :)

Enjoy your weekend.

Measured up alone!

Felt like I came back from a holiday on Monday, just so relaxed.
Then got back into the swing of things. Measured up a BAR/restaurant alone yesterday, took me about 1hr and 45 Minutes :0
and now I'm drawing it up on CAD. And earlier this morning went for a drive...to Heritage Western Cape(HWC) to apply for a demolition permit for an old building on a farm in Worcester. It's in a really bad condition and possibly 65 years old and no existing plans at the municipality. I hope getting the permit will not take too long as our client would like to start as soon as possible with the renovations.

Hope you guys are having an awesome day. Newlands street is absolutely beautiful...take a drive down there(not so much the buildings but the trees...beautiful green pretty street).
Back to work for me!

Block period 2

So I got to campus and needed to upload my Hub concept.
Next thing I know 90% of my folders can not open because the library PC's infected my Flash drive!
This really sucks! Will have to wait until I get home...luckily it was backed up.

What a week!

Meeting after meeting after meeting and site visits and measuring up...Hectic week for my employer.
there is an immeasurable amount of administrative work at small firms(coming from someone who has never worked at a larger firm). A few medium sized renovations are in planning stages. Between the two of us we do everything. I don't do much design work at the moment which suits me because I cant handle criticism...But I'm getting there. Slowly but surely. I design boundary walls :) So much fun.
So we measured up at two sites in the Claremont area, made a trip to PBDM-South Peninsula office to make amendments to a drawing that was approved! Pick that up next week. Home automation...is another language.
Learning how to handle different types of clients...biggest lesson this week.

Check out the CTD page for my section :)

(This is what my brain looks like inside!  Its all over the place!)
